Before changing or disconnecting a voice service, identify every endpoint that depends on it, confirm technical and regulatory requirements, select a compatible replacement, test it under real conditions and retain the old service until acceptance is documented.

Questions to ask for every endpoint
- What physical device or workflow uses the line?
- Who owns and supports that device?
- Is analog voltage, modem compatibility or line power required?
- Does a code, inspection, insurance or vendor requirement apply?
- What happens during a commercial power or network outage?
- How will the replacement be tested, accepted and monitored?
A wireless or IP replacement is not automatically equivalent. Coverage, backup power, device compatibility, monitoring, E911 and inspection requirements must be validated for the specific endpoint.
A safer migration sequence
Inventory the line, confirm the endpoint, establish the replacement requirements, install the new service, test normal and failure conditions, obtain acceptance from the operational owner and only then schedule the final disconnect. Keep a rollback path for critical services.
